Centre for Underground Physics in Pyhäsalmi CUPP proivides possibilities to study variety of phenomena deep underground away from cosmic rays. Several scientific measurements have been carried out in the mine, and now our staff is building the Experiment with MultiMuon Array EMMA. It is the first bigger scale experiment built in Pyhäsalmi mine.
Since 2001, the depth and time-dependence was measured with a cosmic-ray experiment MUG. The experiment was carried out by SGO, University of Oulu and Turku University. In the years 2003-2005, the measurements of depth dependency of muon flux was continued with the MUD-experiment. Measurements of background (such as radon, neutron and gamma) have been carried out.
The collaboration for EMMA experiment is formed by Universities of Oulu and Jyväskylä and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Our staff is actively involved in LAGUNA-project
